Instead of a building taking the cheap route of using free fill dirt to fill in a foundation, they should spend a little extra money and use a mixture of sand and gravel to use as a home foundation. Typically a mix of sand and gravel with dirt will compact down and give a much more stable home foundation. This same mixture is also recommended to be used with sidewalks and driveways as well.
Correct compaction will get rid of air spaces, which if not removed, will, later on, settle and trigger the concrete to break and sink.
For larger issues, specifically those discovered in the house and industrial building foundation shifting, piercing is utilized to lift and stabilize the structure.
